Memory, history and identity are intertwined concepts. They define and are defined, within cultural, social, economic and spatial ensembles. In this course, through the perspective of collective memory, we will explore the city space during the passing from a multicultural social organization of the Byzantine and Ottoman era, to asocial structure based on national states. We will read theory of collective memory, theory of city space, theory of urban transformations of the Byzantine and Ottoman cities and explore some paradigms from the present Greek space.
