SoSe 21: PS-Medieval English Literatures: Geoffrey Chaucer
Wolfram Keller
Kommentar
Geoffrey Chaucer is one of the most well-known Middle English authors. The aim of this seminar is to provide students with an overview of both, Chaucer’s times and his works. Following a few introductory sessions concerned with fourteenth-century history and culture, we will read several of Chaucer’s works, beginning with early poems, such as his dream visions The House of Fame and the Parliament of Fowls, before we discuss excerpts from Chaucer's courtly romance Troilus and Criseyde and selections from The Canterbury Tales, including the Knight’s Tale, the Miller’s Tale, and the Reeve’s Tale. In-class discussions shall be mainly focused on the primary text, occasionally supplemented by short articles. Further information about the syllabus, readings, and assessment shall be available on Blackboard at the beginning of the semester.
