Kommentar

Rather than employing rhyme or meter, as in classical Western poetry, the poetic texts in the Hebrew Bible are part of long tradition in Semitic, especially Northwest Semitic, poetries that emphasizes parallelism, metaphor and simile. This course focuses on the linguistic analysis of Biblical Hebrew poetry and will consist of two parts: the first half of the semester will examine the poetry in the Hebrew Bible in terms of parallelism, in comparison to the use of parallelism in other Semitic languages such as Ugaritic, while the second half will look at other linguistic features involved in biblical Hebrew poetry (such as nominalization) through a typological and comparative approach. Students will be able to enhance their knowledge of Semitic parallelism, including both its comparative Semitic and linguistic aspects, through this course. Schließen
