This course introduces students to the history of refugees in Europe and North America from the age of World War I to the present day. Themes we will cover include: the causes and consequences of refugee movements in the imperial age, U.S. responses to refugees in the 1920s and 1930s, refugees in the Cold War, the sanctuary movement, and European responses to refugees since the 1970s. The course aims to train students in the study of transatlantic history and history-writing. It will therefore also feature some sessions that train you in the practical work of doing historical research and writing. Schließen
