This course provides an overview of the basic principles, concepts and open questions of TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language).
Topics covered will include:
- the history and perspective of English language teaching
- TEFL's foundations: psychology, linguistics, pedagogy
- theory of second/foreign language acquisition
- curriculum, curriculum decisions
- overview of methods (historical and systematic)
- literature and cultural studies
- textbook analysis and evaluation
- characteristics of a good lesson from different perspectives
- language testing
Methodology:
Practical activities, group work, lectures and discussions
Course Assessment:
Portfolio
Requirements:
Use of English, although some lessons will be held in German (CEF: C1/C2)
