Lecture
WiSe 12/13: Introduction to European Integration
Jochen Roose
Comments
In a long history with great leaps forward and considerable backdrops the European
states have come together to form the European Union. The lecture focuses on this
ambiguous political system, its history and current state. The European institutions
are presented in detail as well as procedures and the societal bases of the
integration process.
The lecture is structured into three parts: First, historical precursors, models and
the history of the European Union itself are described. The second part analyses the
European institutions in depth. The final third part discusses the societal bases of
the European Union and the integration process. Besides factual information,
theoretical approaches to aspects of the political process or the integration of
Europe as a whole will be an important part of the lecture.
