WiSe 12/13: Metastable dynamics
Christof Schütte
Information for students
Many dynamical system exhibit metastability, i.e., there are regions in the state space of the system in which the system remains for long periods of time before it exits towards other such attractive sets. Such metastable dynamical behavior is prominent in complex systems (e.g. molecular systems, geophysical systems) but can already been studied in simple dynamical systems. This lecture provides an introduction to the mathematical analysis of metastable systems, and outlines the relation to rare event simulation. close
