Comments
Ritual is a topic that has long fascinated archaeologists. In recent decades, the tendency to treat ritual as a catch-all category for what cannot otherwise be explained has given way to studies that explore ritual from the perspective of practice, performance, politics, symbolism, ideology, and more. These approaches derive from anthropological and other social science engagements with the topic of ritual. In this seminar we will explore some of these recent approaches to ritual, with a particular emphasis on ritual practice.
Both the seminar and the colloquium will be conducted in English. During the colloquium, which takes place in Berlin and in Copenhagen, students will present their research in oral form and have the opportunity to discuss their work with peers from Copenhagen. close
