      WiSe 17/18: Theories and Methods in Arabic Studies

        The course is an introduction to theories, methodologies and new perspectives in Arabic studies. The course has four main objectives. (1) We will examine key works in the humanities and consider their relevance for the study of Arabic literature, history and culture. (2) We will reflect on methodological problems and debates. (3) We will learn how to write and present clear research questions and summaries. (4) We will learn how to design a creative and feasible research project. The course includes group discussions of innovative and critical academic writing, presentations, and guest lectures. Assignments include a book summary, a 15-min oral presentation and the preparation of a research proposal.        Schließen
