WiSe 17/18: The micro politics of transitions to renewable energy
Conrad Kunze
Kommentar
This seminar takes a close look at the local scale of the many transitions to the different forms of renewable energy. We analyse case studies from around the world to understand similarities and differences in the social and political contexts of introducing wind-turbines, solar panels and biogas to name the most common. We will compare rural and urban approaches, like the Berliner Energietisch, private as well as public property schemes and the different forms of initiating and managing renewable energy enterprises.
Our research questions for this seminar will be, what factors foster or hinder the transition in different regions and nation states, and how the mere technological transition has in some cases be part of a process that might be described as community empowerment.
We will read mainly articles in English; German and other languages are optional. The seminar language is English, active participation in small groups and at least one presentation are expected.
