What do we mean when we talk about “mental health” and “disorder”? What is the role of social, cultural, and structural influences on the development and treatment of mental disorders? How do these influences affect our understanding of disorders as well as how people live with them? What premises are common approaches to mental health based on? By comparing explanatory models and theories on mental disorders, we will get to know different approaches to mental health and critically examine them. We will also talk about forms of stigmatization and sanism.
The seminar is divided in three blocks dealing with depression, trauma and psychosis. Each of these disorders is in a slightly different way bio-socio-cultural and faces different forms and degrees of stigmatization. Schließen
