Comments

Increasingly, citizens perceive the global food system as part of the historical causes of the ecological crisis and the persisting hunger in the world. The growing politicisation of the production, distribution and consumption relate to the fact that food relations are structured by economic, social, political, cultural and environmental inequalities. The seminar brings together diverse strands of theorization and research about social inequalities related to food under the conceptual umbrella of food inequalities. Food inequalities will be analysed from a postcolonial and intersectional perspective, and with an empirical focus on food movements. It will be structured combining theoretical discussions with exercises in research methods. Students will get acquainted with different methods for data collection such as survey material from protests, visual data from food movements, newspaper articles, social media data, excerpts from field diaries and interviews. The seminar will discuss the processes of data collection, their strengths and limitations, as well as methods for data analysis. close
