Friederike Fless
Kommentar
The module, conducted in English, focuses on a genre of material that is found in huge quantities on many archaeological excavations: Ceramic building material, which includes bricks, roof tiles, water pipes, and more. The module will give an overview of the genres of Ceramic building material and how they contribute to our understanding of ancient architecture and societies. Using ancient roof tiles and roof terracottas as examples, questions of production, use and also archaeological documentation will then be discussed. The module will thus provide basic knowledge about the genre and at the same time will teach and train in practical exercises how to deal with finds and features of roof tiles on excavations as well as digital and analog documentation. For successful completion of the module, active and regular participation, successful completion of exercises, and a term paper written in English or German with supplementary documentation are required.
