Comments
The lecture introduces a range of sociological theories, starting with classical theories of the emerging sociology of the 19th century and ending in the more contemporary era of postmodern theories. The lecture does not only deal with the substantive content of different theories, but also uses the philosophy of the social science for meta-theoretical reflection and the sociology and history of sociology for a reflection of the empirical context of each theory and theorist. Each theory’s implications for a better understanding of European societies will be a particular focus of the lecture. close
