Lecture
WiSe 22/23: V-Lit. Stud.: Periods-Genres-Concepts: English Poetry: History
Andreas Mahler
Comments
The lecture is the compensatory secondary part to last winter’s lecture on “English poetry: Systematics” but does not presuppose it. After a brief summary of the systematic findings, it will address the – long and variegated – history of English poetry from the Anglo-Saxon period to what is regarded as poetic practice today. Accordingly, the lecture, which is offered in combination with the seminar on “English poems: 16th to 21st century” but can be taken independently, attempts to explore the historical aspects of what throughout the times in the English-speaking cultures has been termed ‘poetry’, trying to attribute to it typical features and to differentiate it from a historical point of view. close
