Facing the crisis of the Western globalized way of living, the seminar seeks to revisit and to interrogate the notions of pact, social contract, and social cohesion. The concept of social contract has been used in political philosophy to fabulate the paths of the formation of institutions and the guiding images of the State and Society. Chronicles of supposed states of nature and processes of covenanting these social contracts ground a universalized and unified political imagination from a colonial historical narrative. In this critical zone, the seminar intends to confront the myths of social cohesion and racial democracy, while engaging with theoretical works and lived practices that situate and interrogate the Eurocentric, racist, and patriarchal framework that structures the colonial and the national state. close
