WiSe 22/23: Gender, Knowledge, Science, and Power
Kathrin Zippel
Comments
Gender, science and organizations is one of the areas in which we have witnessed uneven developments towards intersectional gender equity. Despite progress of gender equity in education and among university students, women remain underrepresented across academic leadership positions and among scientists, particularly in STEM fields in many countries. This seminar explores social science theories to explain this unevenness, including interdisciplinary explanations for how academia has been an institution highly resistant to change. We will explore how the very production of knowledge is gendered, what policy instruments have been used to challenge gendered power in science and academia. close
