WiSe 22/23: Economic sociology and political economy: an introduction into the classics
Sebastian Kohl
Comments
The seminar introduces the classical authors in economic sociology and political economy. The relationship between economy and society generally was a key topic for classical sociologists and not only addressed by economists. Authors ranging from Adam Smith, Karl Marx, Max Weber, Émile Durkheim to Karl Polanyi and Albert O. Hirschman all dealt with the question of how social order was possible in a capitalistically organized economy. The seminar builds on the lecture on sociological theories and deepens students' knowledge of classical sociology. Students interested in economic topics should take this course. No prior knowledge is necessary, but extensive mandatory readings are a requirement for passing the course. close
