      WiSe 22/23: New Animism
Rosalie Stolz
Comments
We will approach one of the oldest concepts in anthropology, animism, and will give special attention to recent ways of re-approaching animism as a concept and an ethnographic phenomenon. In this course, we will learn about different approaches to animism, we will study different ethnographic (mainly from Amazonia, Circumpolar North and Southeast Asia) cases and will discuss relevant aspects such as the problem of studying spirits and non-human persons, the ways in which ontologies can be politicised among others. close
