SoSe 15: Transnational Islamic Networks
Kristina Franziska Dohrn
Kommentar
This seminar deals with contemporary dynamics and activities of transnational Muslim networks across the world. Taking into account the temporality and historicity of translocal religious activity, we will look at recent developments of and negotiations within transnational Muslim networks: How do they adapt to and shape current processes of globalization? In which ways are transnational religious activities related to practices of “localizing” and “home-making”? Which impact do transnational Muslim activities have on matters of religious authority? Which kind of (new) social capital do Muslim movements across national borders provide? In this seminar participants will not only engage with ethnographic case studies but also explore the relevant theoretical concepts within the field of the anthropology of religion.
