      SoSe 15: Critical (!) Whiteness
Eric Anton Heuser
Kommentar
Instead of understanding whiteness as a biologically determined identity, this course will investigate the notion of whiteness as a cultural, historical and political onstruction. We will look at the ways whiteness has grown up along side the notion of blackness and the concepts of race and ethnicity.
The core reading of this class is Lipsitz, George (2006): The Possessive Investment in Whiteness. How White People Profit from Identity Politics. Philadelphia: Temple University Press.
Students are strongly encouraged to buy the book, as it will be instrumental throughout the whole term. Please ensure you purchase the 2006 edition!!!
Class will start in week 2 discussing the first chapter of the book. For more information, please email me at eric.anton.heuser@fuberlin.de. Schließen
