This introductory lecture provides an overview over some of the main topics in development economics. The first part of the course traces the history of ideas in economic development, covering, among others, modernisation theories and state-led industrialisation strategies in the post-war era, the structuralist critique of international trade, the market oriented paradigm shift under the "Washington Consensus" and recent versions of a "new developmentalism". The second part of the course covers a range of selected topics in development micro- and macroeconomics. Schließen
