  Kommentar
Why is Latin America still poor? Although we will not find a conclusive answer to this question, it will guide us through the seminar. Opening with the region’s colonial history in comparison to North America, we will then deal with a series of specific economic phenomena of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, such as the role of agricultural exports, of property rights and land tenure, of industrialization, and of financial institutions. In passing we will also deal with the most important ideas in the formulation of economic policies. The maximum of participants will be 30, seminar language is English (unless all students prefer German), while a basic knowledge of Spanish will be an advantage. Schließen
