The globalization of religion, economy and knowledge in the 21st century has made a decisive contribution to reshaping processes of transregional connectivity and entanglement that contribute to the pluralization of Muslim (life-)worlds in and beyond Asia. Against this background, this research-based seminar will explicitly focus on the role of Muslim women and how they, as mobile agents, creatively co-shape the field of global economy and the production of religious knowledge and authority. Drawing on case studies from the field of Muslim pilgrimage, knowledge travel, and female entrepreneurship, the seminar explores dynamic configurations of gender, religion, and knowledge as well as traces these configurations’ embeddedness in historical and current contexts of cultural and economic globalization and transregional mobility.
